| Q |
How
do I set up my computer to send and receive email? |
| A |
In
your email client software, you will need to set up your email
account. This is usually found under a menu choice named OPTIONS or
PREFERENCES or SETTINGS, depending on the email software you are
using. You will need to know your email account name and password.
Also, you will need to set up the POP and SMTP server names (see
below).
|
| Q |
Can
I access my email from a web browser? |
| A |
If
your account has been transferred to our new email server, you now
have a fully functional web interface. Simply point your browser to
mail.yourdomain.com and login with your email address and your email
password.
|
| Q |
What
is POP? |
| A |
POP
stands for Post Office Protocol. It is the method your email
software uses to get incoming mail from your mail server (often
called a POP server).
|
| Q |
What
is an SMTP Server? |
| A |
SMTP
is short for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is the method by
which your email software sends outgoing email.
An SMTP Server is
a mail server that understands the SMTP protocol. It receives
outgoing mail from your email software, and then delivers it to the
specified Internet address.
|
| Q |
What
names should I put in my email client for POP and SMTP servers? |
| A |
This
will depend on whether your mail server is one of our Unix or
Windows NT Servers. All new accounts are hosted on NT servers. If
you are unsure, use mail.yourdomain.com.
Unix:
- SMTP server
name = smtp.yourdomainname.com
- POP server
name = pop.yourdomainname.com
NT:
- SMTP server
name = mail.yourdomainname.com
- POP server
name = mail.yourdomainname.com
|
| Q |
How
can I change my email password? |
| A |
This
option is only available on our Windows NT servers. If you are on a
Unix server, please email us to request a password change.
If your domain is
hosted on an NT server, point your web browser to http://mail.yourdomainname.com.
You will receive a prompt for your ID and password. Once you have
entered them, you will be able to change your password online.
|
| Q |
What
is a Holiday Message? |
| A |
A
Holiday Message is a message that will be automatically returned to
anyone who sends email to you. You will also receive their email. If
you are out of the office for the week, for example, you may want to
leave a Holiday Message that says "I am on vacation this week,
and will answer my email when I return. If your request is urgent,
please email Sandy Fox at sandy@abc.com."
To add a Holiday
Message, your email account must be on an NT server. Our Unix
servers do not support Holiday Messages.
Point your web
browser to http://mail.yourdomainname.com. When prompted,
enter your email user name and password. You will be able to set a
Holiday Message using an online form.
|
| Q |
Can
I forward my email to another address? |
| A |
Yes,
if your domain is hosted on one of our NT Servers. You may set up
one or more forwarding addresses by pointing your web browser to
http://mail.yourdomainname.com.
If you wish to
have multiple forwarding addresses, simply separate them with a
comma. Example: (yourname@abc.com,yourname@xyz.com,yourname@123.com).
