| Q |
Which
hosting plans are eligible for email [SPAM] filtering? |
| A |
SPAM
filtering is available on the advanced and preferred hosting
plans. If you are currently not on one of these plans,
filtering will be enabled when you upgrade your account
to advanced or preferred hosting.
|
| Q |
How
does the email filter work? |
| A |
Our
Mail Filters identify SPAM using the following RBL (Realtine
Black List) Lists:
- relays.ordb.org
- open relays based on submissions and tests
- sbl.spamhaus.org
- known spam sources based on manual selection process
- spam.dnsrbl.net
- spam sources collected using e-mail traps
With
our advanced email filter service, dangerous or offensive
emails are also identified by scanning for invalid email
headers and potentially harmful attachments. Other advanced
features are available (see below).
|
| Q |
What
features do I get? |
| A |
We
offer Basic SPAM Filtering and Advanced
Email filtering, depending on your needs. See
the descriptions below for further information about
the features available with each service.
Mail
that comes to domains with enabled Advanced filtering
gets higher scanning priority and is processed faster.
|
| Q |
What
features are available in the Basic SPAM Filter? |
| A |
The
Basic Spam Filter is enabled on all preferred and advanced
hosting plans by default. It includes SPAM identification
using RBL Lists (Realtime Blackhole Lists) provided by
three different sources:
- relays.ordb.org
- open relays based on submissions and tests
- sbl.spamhaus.org
- known spam sources based on manual selection process
- spam.dnsrbl.net
- spam sources collected using e-mail traps
When
an email is identified as SPAM, the word [SPAM] is added
to the subject line of the message. When you receive
it you can then take action manually or you can set
up rules in your email program to move it to another
folder or delete it.
In
Basic Mode, Mail Filtering is set at the server level
(for all domains and mailboxes on your account) only.
You cannot set different settings for each mailbox.
SPAM
scanner sensitivity level is set to 5 and cannot be
changed.

| Q |
What
features are available in the Advanced Email Filter? |
| A |
Mail
that comes to domains with enabled Advanced filtering
gets higher scanning priority and is processed faster.
Advanced
Mode Mail Filtering can be managed on both server (for
all domains and mailboxes on your account) and mailbox
levels.
We
can set the following settings:
- SPAM
scanner sensitivity level from 1 to 10. The lower
the number, the stricter the SPAM identifier rules.
- Choose
to either add the [SPAM] prefix to the
Subject for SPAM messages (identified to be SPAM based
on the sensitivity level you specified) and still
deliver the messages to your mailbox or... reject
such messages without delivering them to your mailbox.
- Enable/Disable
Scan for SPAM option, which enables/disables
anti-SPAM scanning.
- Enable/Disable
rejecting messages with bad mail headers.
Enabling this option forces to reject e-mail messages
with headers non-compliant with SMTP RFC-2821. Bad
headers can contain executable code and be used to
infect client systems.
- Enable/Disable
rejecting messages with dangerous attachments. The
list of the dangerous attachments can be found here.
- Create
server level White and Black lists affective for all
the mailboxes on your account (The Black List provides
you with the ability to create lists of senders that
you never want to receive messages from again. Any
email from sender whose email address is entered in
the White List will never be considered as SPAM.)
- Disable/Enable
Mail Filtering for individual mailboxes. When mail
filtering is disabled, all filtering options are turned
off for this mailbox with the exception of DNS RBL
(Realtime Black List) which stays enabled at all times.
- Create
mailbox level individual White and Black lists affective
for edited mailbox only. Please note: Mailbox Level
List rules always take priority over Server Level
Lists rules.
